Who we are
Instituto Ecozinha is a private, nonprofit civil society organization that serves the public interest.
Instituto Ecozinha's purpose is to carry out initiatives that drive the economic, social and cultural development of society and its institutions, with an emphasis on environmental education and conservation, advancing the new low-carbon circular economy through food.
Principles and values
(of the stakeholders involved in Instituto Ecozinha's circular economy)
Instituto Ecozinha's mission is to strengthen and promote the concept of “shared responsibility” in Brazil's National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) among its members and the market at large.
Instituto Ecozinha seeks the most professional and efficient solution for each waste stream its members generate, maximizing the collection and recovery of post-consumer waste and optimizing its proper routing to recycling in the circular economy.
Members understand that, as waste generators, they are responsible for always seeking to Reduce, Reuse, Share and Recycle, and for adopting a “purchasing policy” aimed at eliminating the residual waste that goes to landfill.
Members understand that they are responsible for sorting each type of waste they generate and for contributing financially to make sure their share of reverse logistics is carried out, paying the processors (intermediary agents) for collecting, processing and routing (for reuse) each waste stream.
Instituto Ecozinha manages, tracks and ensures the development of the circular economy for its members (bars, restaurants, hotels and similar businesses), who by definition believe in and seek to contribute to the development of a new, sustainable circular economy.
Buyers of the recovered “new” raw material understand that they are responsible for contributing financially to the processing of the recovered waste and the delivery of the material for reintroduction into their manufacturing and/or reuse processes. Buyers should make a preference for reclaimed raw material a core practice of their business, and design their products and packaging so they can be reused within reverse logistics as easily (and as cheaply) as possible.
Beyond minimizing their impact on the environment, all the stakeholders in Ecozinha's circular economy believe they can grow while restoring and enriching the soil, water and atmosphere, ensuring a prosperous future for everyone.
